Do you know your local kratom laws in Alaska? The question on kratom is one that continues to be wrestled with in the United States, and while there are many cities and states across the country where legislation has been passed banning it, or is being debated to go that route, Alaska is not one of those states. A state with a reputation for being very libertarian and heavy on individual rights, this philosophy spills over to dealing with kratom.
Kratom Legality in Alaska
As of this writing kratom is 100% legal in the state of Alaska as individuals are allowed to buy, sell, and use kratom. As with many states most stores will demand that the individual is 18 or older in order to buy. Considering most places to purchase kratom are smoke shops, this only makes sense and errs on the safe side for the store owners and employees even if there aren’t officially any laws in the books.
AK Kratom’s Legal Status In Jeopardy?
There were some online rumors that Anchorage was considering a bill over the possible ban of kratom, but there appears to be no evidence to support those rumors. No bills were put up to vote, none were talked about in any depth, and there doesn’t seem to be any indication at all that Alaska is going to ban kratom at either the state or city level anywhere in the near future.
In other words, Alaska doesn’t appear to be in any hurry to join Alabama, Arkansas, Vermont, Indiana, and Wisconsin as the only states currently banning kratom or to join the handful of states currently contemplating bills to head in that direction.
Will Alaska Ban Kratom?
Even if tables turn against kratom nationally, which doesn’t appear ready to happen but even if that changes, Alaska is a state that has always been built around extremely independent people and minimal interference from government, regulation, or other agencies. This means there’s very little likelihood of the state taking steps to ban anything until they are forced to by federal law.
Two Important Caveats
While kratom is legal in Alaska it’s important to note two possible exceptions. One: the Armed Forces in the United States forbids their service members from using kratom, so that is something service members need to keep in mind regardless of where they are. The other is that with isolated native villages, there may be rules against anything remotely seen as a supplement and you need to be courteous of those local rules (although this won’t affect 99.9% of all visitors to Alaska).

Kratom Wave is the result of years of hard work and dedication to the Mitragyna Speciosa community and the many activists who continue fighting to keep authentic kratom available to the public.
